This database focuses only on average home attendance in league competition. Cup matches are excluded so seasons and clubs can be compared consistently.
Historic records
Historic seasonal averages, league levels and national attendance positions are based primarily on the extensive, long-running compilation at European Football Statistics, which we gratefully acknowledge. The underlying match and season facts are public records, but compiling them represents a significant body of work. This site is independent and is not affiliated with European Football Statistics.
Recent missing League Two clubs and seasons are supplemented from published home league averages at Transfermarkt, with league finishes checked against season tables; the source is linked on each affected club page. Historic figures are cross-checked where practical and there may be errors or differences between sources. Blank seasons, wartime gaps and seasons without a meaningful published average are excluded from all-time calculations.
All-time average
A club's all-time average is the arithmetic mean of its published seasonal league averages, including the live average for the current season. Every season with a valid figure counts once, so the result is not weighted by the number of home matches. The figure updates as the current-season average changes.
Ranks
“England rank” is the club's attendance position across the national league structure in that season. “Tier rank” compares average crowds with clubs at the same league level, including both North and South divisions when the third tier was split. We calculate it where the recorded league cohort and its attendance averages are complete; otherwise it stays blank unless a rank is already recorded. “League finish” is the club's position in its division's football results table.

Current season
Live 2026/27 averages are sourced from published current attendance tables and cover home league matches only. Fixture schedules, results and individual crowds are cross-checked against established external sources, including club records and football data services. Crowd figures are never estimated; if no reliable published attendance can be found, the field is left blank.
2026/27 stadium utilisation
Stadium utilisation is the published home league average divided by the stadium capacity recorded for 2026/27, multiplied by 100. It measures average crowds against the listed capacity, not actual tickets available at every match. Building work, segregation and safety restrictions can change individual match capacity. Each club’s capacity source is linked on its current-season record and in the 2026/27 rankings. We retain a separate capacity snapshot for each season from 2026/27 onwards; earlier seasons have no utilisation estimate.
